Surge Arrester

Yuanneng electrical surge arrester utilize the good nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics of zinc oxide, the current flowing through the arrester under normal operating voltage is extremely small (microampere or milliampere). Once an overvoltage occurs in the system, arrester immediately activates and enters the working state, instantly turning itself into a conductor and releasing high voltage to the ground to prevent the system voltage from continuing to rise and protect equipment and personal safety.

Arrester Application

High-voltage zinc oxide arresters are mainly used to protect equipment and lines in power systems from damage by lightning strikes and overvoltage. It can quickly introduce the increased overvoltage into the ground to ensure the safe operation of the power system. In addition to power systems, high-voltage zinc oxide arresters are also widely used in petrochemical, transportation, communications and other fields. For example, on the highway, the arrester on the street light pole is a high-voltage zinc oxide arrester. In petrochemical plants, high-voltage zinc oxide arresters can effectively protect equipment from lightning strikes and electrostatic interference. In the field of communication, high-voltage zinc oxide arresters are also important equipment to ensure the normal operation of communication systems.

Yuanneng Arrester Feature

Yuanneng arresters are constructed of a series of MOV (metal oxide varistor) discs. MOV blocks are the key to surge arresters, the resistors that we adopt have small leakage current, slow aging, and long service life advantages.

The arrester's housing is made from hydrophobic silicone polymer, tracking and erosion-resistant. They are integrally molded, have no air gaps, and have excellent sealing performance.

Yuanneng provides optional accessories, including fiberglass polyester material insulating brackets, copper wire, and disconnectors. The insulating bracket to facilitate arresters can be installed on channel and angle iron cross-arms. The disconnector can disconnect the arrester from the electrical system in case of failure and indicate visually the faulty arrester.

Our arresters can be suitable for horizontal and vertical mounting in outdoor environment. Stainless steel terminals accept copper or aluminum conductors without corrosion. All exposed steel parts will be hot dip galvanized according to ISO 1461.

Yuanneng Quality Control of Surge Arresters

Appearance Inspection

Check whether there are burrs on the appearance, whether the accessories are complete, and whether the nameplate logo is correct. Also, check whether there are cracks, whether the seal is good, whether the down conductor is well connected to the grounding body and itself, whether there are discharge marks on the surface, etc.

Reference Voltage Test:

The DC reference voltage measurement of the entire arrester under a DC 1mA reference current is to evaluate the electrical performance of the arrester, especially its protection capability under overvoltage conditions. This test applies a voltage to the arrester and measures the current passing through the arrester to determine its voltage value under a current of 1mA, commonly referred to as the DC reference voltage.

Partial Discharge Test

This test guarantee the partial discharge of the arresters do not exceed 10pc.

Galvanized Layer Inspection: ISO 1461:2009

Avergae minimum coating thickness will be ≥85μm, 600g/m2

Residual Voltage Test:

The voltage drop across the arrester under the nominal discharge current of the 8/20μs standard wave is called the lightning impulse residual voltage. The purpose of the residual voltage type test is to obtain the data necessary to derive the maximum residual voltage.

What to Consider When Buying a Metal Oxide Arrester?

Usage Environment

First of all, you need to consider the environment in which your arrester will be used, including local temperature, humidity, wind speed, and installation height. Yuanneng conventional arresters can be used in the following environments: Ambient temperature 40℃~+40℃, altitude does not exceed 2000 meters, the wind speed does not exceed 35m/s, earthquake intensity does not exceed magnitude 8.

Electrical Performance

You need to pay attention to the required electrical performance, including rated voltage, line discharge class, basic insulation level, power frequency withstand voltage, discharge current rating, nominal continuous operating voltage etc. Metal oxide surge arrester involves many electrical parameters. Packing and Delivery

Finally, you need to pay attention to electrical surge arrester packaging. Overseas orders often have long voyages, especially in LCL delivery, the transportation method will be changed several times. Composite surge arrester will be deformed under pressure, so a good packaging method is crucial. Our arresters are usually packed by 3 pieces per carton. The carton is a multi-layer thicker outer carton. We will add foam layered protection. Then the cartons are stacked on fumigation-free wooden pallets.
